So! Jetzt will ich, dass sich hier möglichst viele Leute outen und einhellig bekennen, dass Mark "The Shark" Shelton ein absoluter Gott ist!
Nee, mal ernsthaft: Manilla Road haben sich jetzt nach Jahren intensiven Hörens als eine der beständigsten, wenn nicht gar als DIE beständigste Metalband meiner persönlichen Top-Five-Liste etabliert und ich wollte mal so rundhorchen, wem es da noch genauso geht?
Welche Alben hört ihr am liebsten und wieso? Welche "Schätze" habt ihr daheim und vor allem: Habt ihr seltenes Zeuch zum Tausch oder zu verkaufen? ;)
Da hoffe ich mal auf viele Antworten...

also ich kenn nur „Crystal Logic“ oder „Open The Gates“ und davon gefällt mir die „Crystal Logic“ aber sonst kann ich nicht viel zu der band sagen da ich mich schnell härteren gefilte hingegeben hab :D
Bei mir ist das so, dass ich mehr oder weniger beides hör: Ultrageballere und halt ältere melodische Sachen. Kommt ganz auf meine Stimmung drauf an.
Die Crystal logic ist schon verdammt geil, aber mitlerweile gefallen mir die späteren eher thrashigeren Alben noch nen Tick besser. Aber es ist verdammt schwierig für mich gewesen da meine Faves rauszusuchen, weil irgendwie jedes Album für sich grundverschieden von den anderen ist und alle ihre Qualitäten haben...

Angefangen hab ich mit den beiden wunderschönen digis (alleine die beiden Coverbilder sind die Anschaffung wert):

danach hab ich mir die Crystal Logic besorgt und dann hätt ich theoretisch die wichtigsten und besten Alben der Jungs besessen
danach die Courts of Chaos und die Mystification
und zu guter letzt vor kurzen die doppel cds Invasion und Metal auf die bin ich ganz besonders stolz! :D

Ich hab vor nem Jahr ungefähr endlich meine Sammlung komplettieren können, indem ich mir die Out of the abyss geholt habe und die Platte rult wirklich wie Sau! Ist noch nicht mal soviel Thrash vorhanden, die Songs kommen nur etwas düsterer rüber, was auch an der Thematik liegen könnte (Lovecraft, Howard`s Cthulu-Mythos, Clive Barker, etc.)
Saulohnenswerte Geschichte. Am 28.02. kommt dann auch endlich die Wiederveröffentlichung dieses Albums als Doppel-CD mit Live Roadkill auch auf Cult Metal Classics raus. Unbedingt kaufen!
Ich hab vor ein paar Tage erfahren, dass Manilla Road jedem, der sie in Witchita Kansas besucht ein ganz privates Konzert in ihrem Proberaum geben. Scheißegal wer, einfach ne mail an Mark Shelton schreiben wann ihr da seid ( sharkalator@yahoo.com). Das nenn ich Fannähe!
Ich weiß net, ich hab mal gedacht, falls jemand mal in die USA fliegt und da vorbei kommt, nützt ihm die Info vielleicht was. Ich werds wohl leider die nächste Zeit net schaffen :-(
Das neue Album "Gates of fire" kommt übrigens demnächst raus und wird ein absoluter Killer!

Hail to all,
I have noticed that there is a growing interest in our fans seeing us play live. Well we are not doing any touring right now until 2006 when we plan on storming Eruope again. But I have somewhat of a solution for those of you that travel here in the states. Bryan has said this before but I will repeat it here and make it official.
Anyone who will be traveling to Wichita Kansas and would like to see us live all you have to do is email me at sharkalator@yahoo.com and let me know when you will be in Wichita and we will bring you to Midgard Sound Labs (my studio where we rehearse and record) and treat you to a live personal performance of The Road. It is not quite like a live performance on a stage but in some ways it is better because you get a front row seat, get to watch me, Bryan, Cory and Harvey mess with each other and you also get to drink with us. We have done this before for others and there is a standing invitation to anyone who takes the time and expence to come to us. We actually like doing this because we get to meet with you first hand and in person and you get to see us in our element. I promise it to be a blast and a time that you will never forget. So if there are any takers get in touch with us whenever you feel like it for once again this is an invitation to anyone and everyone and as long as we are in town and not out touring we will make it happen.
Thanks to all of you for your support. We are endebted to all of you for staying on the Road.

Das Album ist anscheinend schon früher rausgekommen, auch wenn der offizielle Termin erst am 25. ist. Ich hab mir das Album auf jeden Fall eben im Media Markt für 16.99 € gekauft und es ist jeden Cent wert!
Geniales Teil, hört unbedingt rein! Ich hör auch wirklich net auf zu nerven, bis ich hier wenigstens nicht mehr das Gefühl hab, als würd ich allein Im Wald stehen! :D :D :D :D

Ah, noch ein musikalischer Feinschmecker! Willkommen in der kleinen aber feinen Manilla Road - Metallized Fangemeinde, die im Moment leider zum größten Teil noch aus mir besteht (zumindest was die Anzahl der Posts betrifft :D).

Manilla Road IST ne verdammt geile Band, ALERDINGS teils auch recht... nunja kauzig. Will heißen, dass sich die Klasse und Genialität oft nicht schon beim ersten Hören erschließt. Meist brauchts pro Album so einige Hördurchläufe, dann jedoch frisst sich die Musik so fest, dass man nicht mehr ohne kann.
Desweiteren ist MR eine der Fanfreundlichsten Bands, die ich kenne. Mark beantwortet alle Briefe, läd ALLE Fans zu sich nach Hause ein, wenn se mal in der Gegend sind (Witchita, Kansas) zwecks Privatkonzert/Privatrehearsal im Proberaum, etc. Wenn ne Band Unterstützung verdient hat, dann MR.
p.s.: Die alten Scheiben (Invasion ´80 und Metal ´82) von MR in der Original Roadster Pressung sind im Preis so bei 100 bis 150 €. Hast dann also von deinen 500 noch 250 übrig um dir auch den Rest zu kaufen... :D
@possessed: Ich glaub, die kann man schon bei einigen Mailordern bestellen, oder versuchs mal bei Battle Cry Records selbst. Ich weiß nämlich nicht, ob die überhaupt nen Vertrieb haben, der dir die Platte ins CD Regal vom Saturn oder ähnlichem stellt. Kann sein, dass das bei mir ne Ausnahme war...
Ich hab hier mal ein paar Lieder von MR direkt von der Monster Records Fanpage verlinkt. Die Mp3s sind nicht die besten, da zu gering codiert, jedoch gibt das evt. einigen Leuten hier einblick in den Sound der Band. Vom neuen Album ist jedoch noch nix dabei, ich werd auch nix reinstellen, dass soll die Plattenfirma oder die Band selbst erledigen.

Ja das wär nicht so gut aber die Wiederveröffentlichung von Out of the Abyss und von Invasion/Metal gibt´s auch beim Saturn und die Atlantis Rising hab ich auch schon bei Müller gesehen,aber wenn alle Stricke reissen; da gibts bei uns nen Metalshop der schon so ziemlich alle "Road" Veröffentlichungen gehabt hat. Jep, Ruhe brauch man auf jeden Fall dafür! :D
Avatar ist auch ein geiles Lied, braucht jedoch Zeit, da es wirklich schon verdammt alt ist und noch jede Menge 70ies psychodelic Einflüsse drin hat. MR werden meist erst dann zu ner band, die man auch nebenbei hören kann, wenn man sich eingewöhnt hat. Oft ist die Musik etwas zu komplex um auf reinzukommen.
Nebenbei finde ich gerade die Gitarrenarbeit richtig genial, ich würde sagen nach Randy Rhoads gabs keinen, der so geile, gefühlvolle Solos und Melodien geschrieben hat wie Mark Shelton.
So, ich hab dann hier (http://www.metallized.de/thread.php?threadid=1751) mal die Lyrics des neuen Albums reingestellt, se sind etwas einfacher strukturiert und zu verstehen als gewohnt, die schreiberische Klasse vom Shark kommt aber trotzdem recht gut rüber.
Ich empfehle trotzdem jedem, sich die Texte zusammen mit der Musik durchzulesen, denn nur gemeinsam ergibt sich ein komplett stimmiges Gesamtbild...

Das Lied heißt "When giants fall" und ist eins der besten Songs des neuen Albums. Alle, die bisher noch nix von denen gehört haben und gern mal in das neue Album reinschnuppern würden ist hier die Chance für ne Hörkostprobe.
Das Album ist leider im normalen Laden nicht so leicht erhältlich, aber bei ebay gibts das bei einigen Händlern für unschlagbare 8,99 € zum Sofort Kaufen. Einfach mal etwas suchen, es lohnt sich, die anderen Songs sind nicht minder gut.

Since back in the days of the Invasion album to the recent release of Gates of Fire. I have had a long history and great passion for Manilla Road and metal music in general. Starting back to the early days of being just a roadie for one my all time favorite bands. I had the best experience in life that only a few could ever live let alone some could only dream of having. I remember a lot of great times with Mark, Scott and Rick, I also remember some great times with Randy. Back in those days life was easy. Everyone had one thing in common and that was to play heavy metal to their fullest and play hard and loud. Of course then there were some hard times, some of you know some of the stories. To the recent resurrection of Manilla Road in 2000, Scott Peters, Troy the hammer, and Mark Anderson it was also the same great times and hard times. I can say that the recent Manilla Road had some of the best shows that Manilla has ever produced in a live setting. Yes there were some back in the old days that I remember very well. Being able to bring Manilla Road to Europe was a true dream of mine that not only happened once not twice but three times. Being able to perform live in front of fans of the band from many years back, to fans of the new generation was something very special to me and the band as well. I have to admit it was hard at first with all the critics out there that did not want me in the position that I was in being the front man of again one of the greatest Metal bands of all time in my opinion . But with this said I am glad that I stuck my head out there. Which in some cases some wanted to cut it off with a sword, but that is part of being successful in my mind.
To get to my point, I have had a great time, with no regrets, I met some fantastic people along the way that without their dedication and commitment none of this would have been possible. Nick, Manolis, Chris, Marco, Kostas, all from BattleRoar, Michael Lord of Light. Gianluca, Matteo and everyone from Italy. Greg Heavy load from Eat Metal, Oliver from Keep it True and Tarek. All my brothers in arms from Rosae Crusis. Andreas Neudi our web master, which by the way has done a excellent job for us. There is just so many out there that has touched my heart!
Sometimes in order to keep the flame going one has to stir the kindling, Mark has been a long time brother to me and will always be such that. Harvey has came on board with a vengeance and has more to accomplish, and Cory Christner is one of the finest individuals that I have had the pleasure of being around with and is one of the most talented drummers that I have ever seen.
With this being said, this is my notice to all of you out there, Fans, Friends and Brothers that I have officially retired from Manilla Road. I have ceased all of my duties of the band. This Sunday the 7th of August 2005.
I thank you all for the great times and memories that I will forever have with me until the day I breathe my last breath. It was truly a honor for me to personally know each and everyone of you. Please keep supporting one of the best Metal bands in the World for I will always be doing the same.

oh mann... heut is echt ein schwarzer tag... nur scheisse passiert und schlechte nachrichten ohne ende... langweil...
Wenigstens diese folgende Nachricht vom Shark ist erbaulich. Wies scheint gehts trotzdem weiter und Mark ist auch schon am schreiben neuer Songs. Ich zumindest hoffe (und erwarte ;))das Beste, obwohl mir Brian Fehlen wird. In menschlicher genau wie in musikalischer Hinsicht. Hier die Nachricht:

As you can see by Bryan's post this is no joke. I know this saddens many of you as well it does myself, Harvey and Cory. But this is what Bryan has decided is best for him at this point in his life. It is not what I wished but it seems this is the way it shall be. So from here on out Manilla Road shall be a 3 man band again. As I have said before I shall continue this till I draw my last breath. We are in the middle of contract negotiations as I speak and we are still going to record our next album that will hopefully come out somewhere around May of 2006 and we are still planning a tour of Europe in the summer of 2006 as well. Bryan will always be like a brother to me in my heart and mind and I wish him the best of luck in all that he endeavors to do in life. The Dream Goes On and so does The Road untill Ragnarok.

Hier ist noch ein Statement vom Shark bezüglich des Line up Wechsels. Sieht also ganz gut aus, was die Zukunft der Band betrifft. Außerdem ist der Shark gerade in Verhandlungen mit diversen Labels, die Interesse an Manilla Road gezeigt haben und wird sich wohl bald für eins entscheiden, welches das nächste Album, welches im Mai 2006 erscheinen soll, rausbringt. Hier die Nachricht:
"Hail to all,
Have no fear. The departure of Hellroadie from our ranks is not a setback. All four of us had a final jam session that was sort of a sending off for the Vocal master Bryan Patrick. This is not a bad parting of the ways as many of you may have mistaken. We are all still friends and hugs were given and received by all at this last jam. It is just that Bryan has decided to dedicate more time to his family and that is a responsible decision considering that he has 5 children to look after and raise.
As for the Road. It continues. I decided myself long ago that this was my calling in life and I shall not stop until I am not capable of continueing with the saga of Manilla Road. And I might warn you all that if I can figure out how to come back from the dead and keep doing this I will. The Road goes on as always. There is no need for sorrow or sadness here for it is just another page in the ongoing tale of a band that refuses to die no matter what. If I lost my right arm I would figure out how to play with a hook. If I lost my left arm I would continue to write and sing. If I lost my voice I would continue to write and play the axe. I would have to be pretty much totally decimated to quit before I die. I hope you get my point here and realize how important this is to me. Manilla Road is my life and my calling. There will always (by the grace of the gods) be those who will help me keep the torch lit. I have seen this in my dreams and know this to be true. The muse has even more in store for the future of this band and some of it will be coming to light very soon. Mark my words well all of thee who have the faith. Courage and Honor until the final days when Ragnarok is upon us. There is no fall. There is no retreat. There is only an onward and upward spiral unto greatness that shall be had by all who believe. I am emailing Bob from Attacker back to see if we can work out Manilla Road playing with them in their area. I was honored to share the stage with them in Germany and I would be more than honored to share it again with them anywhere for they are the stuff.
Now for the announcements. There is actually more than one.
First I am pleased to say that I have been working with Mike Palmer (guitarist for Stygian Shore) on mastering the entire catalog of Stygian Shore's music for a release with Evil Legend Records. Mike and I are in the final phases of this endeavor and we have already worked out a deal with Tim at Evil Legend so this great bands gutsy heavy rock stuff will be available in the near future.
Second is that Manilla Road will be the Headliner at a 15 band benefit show in Wichita Kansas on October 8, 2005. All the funds from this show will go to the Red Cross Relief Fund for the victims of the hurricane disaster in the Gulf. We will only be playing a one and a half hour show but it is for a very good cause. If you can be there and need more information email me for more details.
Third and most important of all to me:
Manilla Road have just finished negotiations for our next recording deal and the contracts have been signed. Manilla Road is now signed to Black Lotus Records of Athens, Greece. They made us an offer that we could not refuse and their distribution is much better than any label we have ever been on. We at Manilla Road are very excited about this new endeavor for a few reasons. One is that we get to make more projects that will be released for sure. Also because we feel that Black Lotus will do a better promotion job for us and that gives Manilla ROad the possibillity of reaching new people with our music. And best of all it will make it easier for all of our existing fans to find our next releases instead of having to mail-order them or buy them only at the festivals because their distribution is much better than any label we have been on. We have been given full creative license to pursue our own musical ideas and we are not being dictated as to what kind of songs or concepts we are to be putting out. This is and has always been very important to me. Black Lotus will be putting out a press release about all this in the near future. The biggest thing about this whole deal for me is that the Road Goes On. We have been writing new material for our next album and that work continues on at this time. We hope to have the next album finished by May of 2006. And then we hope to be back in Europe very soon after that in June or July to play some shows live. We have been invited to participate in a festival in Chicago and that will be something else that I am working on also. We have another live show in WIchita at the Rivers Edge Club on December 10, 2005 that will be sort of a SHARK birthday party show because I want to celebrate being born right around the time they invented Dirt. My birthday is actually a few days before that but it was the date that we could agree on with the club.
As for the 3 peice line-up: Everything is going well. My voice (now that I am singing all the time again) is getting stronger everytime we rehearse. We have been doing 3 hour or more rehearsals and my voice is the strongest that it has been for years. I am very excited about all these events and soon the resurrection of the power trio of epic metal will be complete. Manilla Road is still alive and signed. Spread the word and keep your hammers held on high.
My deepest thanks to all of you for your support and helping keep the dream alive. You are still and always will be the main reason that Manilla Road exists. I had seen someone post awhile back that they thought that Bryan was the reason that Manilla Road got back in action but the truth is that it was the fans wanting Manilla Road to live again that really brought the band back to life. This was in 2000 when the European public wanted us to play at the Bang Your Head Festival in Germany. If you remember the band was still a 3 peice at that point. No matter what the situation if you, our supporters, want Manilla Road to exist then I will do everything in my power to make sure that it does. Thank you all for the great comments about Gates Of Fire and we promise to do our best to deliver the goods on this next album that we are working on right now.

Wieso? Bisher hatte ich noch nix von Problemen mit denen gehört. Der Vertrieb ist auch in Ordnung und wenn se ein gutes Angebot bekommen haben, wieso nicht?
Ich lass mich da aber auch gern belehren, hab halt bisher noch nix groß negatives gehört....
Ich hoff zumindest, dass für den Mark bei denen alles zum Besten läuft, die hatten ja oft genug Pech gehabt.....

Ja, geht mir auchso. Mann, ich hab das Album seit Juni und das wird net langweilig! Ich glaub mit der Zeit, wird das zu dem Album, was ich am meisten gehört hab und läuft der Ride the lightning den Rang ab....

Mir ist es fast peinlich diese Band heute das erste mal gehört zu haben. Muss schon sagen.. ziemlich Killer das ganze. Werde mir bestimmt demnächst garantiert was von denen zulegen.

Das braucht einem nicht peinlich zu sein. Die ham leider nie den Status und Bekanntheitsgrad erlangt, der ihnen eigentlich zusteht. Hoffentlich wird sich das ab dem nächsten Album, was im Sommer erscheint, ändern. Black Lotus Records hat ja schon einen starken Vertrieb und auch die Promotion, die se machen ist normalerweise recht gut.
Ich freu mich noch einen auf den Trip gebracht zu haben, hehe... ;)

Hab mir das "Open The Gates" Album noch bißchen angehört. Ich muss sagen die Songs sind allesamt sehr gut und haben alle ihre ganz besonderen Höhepunkte. Alle Songs haben ein sehr hohes Grundniveau und es gibt wenn dann nur Ausreißer nach oben, obwohl ich nicht sagen könnte welcher Song der beste ist. Das ist hier einfach zu schwer. Was ich sagen kann ist, mir gefällt dieses Album besser als "Gates of Fire" und ich weiß jetzt, dass ich versuchen werde mir noch die ein oder andere CD zu besorgen.
Es ist schon was besonderes zu hören, wie man epischen Metal ohne übertriebenen Keyboardeinsatz machen kann.
Außerdem schien es mir musikalisch manchmal so, als wenn es leichte Parallelen mit Iron Maiden gibt, obwohl man bei Manilla Road den eigenen Stil immer hören kann.

Nee, leider nicht. Die letzte Mail vom Shark hat besagt, dass se gerade am Aufnehmen wären und dass se bisher voll und ganz zufrieden sind, wie sich das Album entwickelt. Ich denke die Aufnahmen dürften mittlerweile fertig sein und das Album befindet sich im Mix.
Ein paar schlechte Nachrichten gab es auch: Black Lotus Records haben vor über nem Monat ihren Bankrott bekannt gegeben. Auf der Homepage heißt es:

Einige der Band wurden schon auf die Straße gesetzt (u.A. Cruachan) und suchen nach nem neuen Label. Manilla Road sind davon wohl auch betroffen, obwohl Mark gesagt hat, er hätte evt. noch ein paar Trümpfe in der Hand. Ich denke er wird erst dann nen richtigen Newspost machen, wenn alles ganz sicher unter Dach und Fach ist.
Heißt wohl leider Warten....
Ist aber auch echt zum Kotzen was die Band ein Pech mit Labels hat! Und das seit der Gründung! :(
p.s.: Es wurde wohl schon ein neuer Song live in den USA gespielt ("Butchers of the sea") und der soll ziemlich geil gewesen sein. Von der Thematik her soll das Album wohl wieder etwas düsterer werden wie "Gates of fire"....

Ja, hehe. Mark hat in nem Interview mal gesagt, solang es noch einen geben würde, der seine Musik anhört, würde er weiterspielen bis zum Tod. Wenn ihm ne Hand weggefetzt wird, dann würd er halt mit nem Haken weiterspielen, haha...
Das ist wirklich schade für die Band. Ich kenn mich zwar nicht so gut aus wie du (Exumer), aber was ich mitbekommen habe, ist es ja wirklich nicht das erste oder zweite mal. Naja dann müssen wir wohl hoffen und warten.
Aber lieber etwas warten und dafür wieder alles im Lot haben, als zu schnell zu schießen.
So... Leider gibts immer noch keine News bezüglich des neuen Albums und der Labelprobleme, mit denen Manilla Road ja bekanntlich verflucht zu sein scheinen, allerdings hab ich im offiziellen Manilla Road Forum dieses Live-Video von "Witches Brew" gefunden und wollte es euch nicht vorenthalten. Aufgenommen wurde es Live auf dem Alehorn Fest in Chicago 2006...

Nachdem die letzten Wochen und Monate viiiel zu ruhig um Mark "The Shark" Shelton und seine Kollegen war, hat sich Mark endlich mit einer neuen News-Mail an die Fans gewandt, um die neusten Neuigkeiten unters Volk zu bringen:

I know it has been a very long time since I have posted anything on this message board and I am sorry for that. But the truth is that when I get embroiled in working on a new album I sort of tune out the rest of the world for awhile. Besides my computer is fraged and I have to post from other peoples computers right now.
The tracking of the new album is almost finished. We basically have one song left to finish the tracking of and we will be ready to proceed to the mixing phase of the project. So it should not be too long before we are done. Can't tell you exactly what label the new album will be on yet. Since Black Lotus folded we are free agents again and will be negotiating a new contract for this album. I have a few offers on the table already but to be honest I have not wanted to think about it or anything else until the new album is finished. So after I finish up the album I will be getting back online more often and visiting the outside world once again. So just hang in there and hopefully we will finish this project soon so that I can move onto the next and think about touring again.

So. Ich hab die Tribute 2CD jetzt seit ein paar Tagen daheim und kann euch versichern, dass die sich wirklich lohnt. Alle Fans der Band werden auf ihre Kosten kommen, auch wenn manche Versionen mancher Bands etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig sind. Nichtsdestotrotz kann man ganz eindeutig Hören, dass hier auch wirkliche Fans am Werk waren.

Well, what can you really say about Manilla Road which has not already been said? They are indeed a legend in their own right. Hailed as US Metal pioneers (their debut album "Invasion" was released on their own Roadster label in 1980), the band from Wichita (Kansas) has set the trend for the current renaissance of Epic Power Metal (despite being at best ignored and at worst derided by mainstream Metal magazines around the globe for some 25 odd years).
The original Manilla Road folded back in 1990 after "The Courts of Chaos", only to return with a rather lacklustre comeback album in 2001 called "Atlantis rising". However, on their latest longplayer "Gates of Fire" Mark "The Shark" Shelton and his (new) boys truly show that they are back with a vengeance.
The album was originally released on compact disc via Battle Cry on July 25th 2005. Divided into three parts, Trilogy I: The Frost Giant's Daughter (consisting of three individual tracks), Trilogy II: Out Of The Ashes (consisting of another three numbers) and finally Trilogy III: Gates of Fire (making up the closing three compositions), the album is 72:16 minutes of sheer Epic Metal glory. "Gates of Fire" is a real masterpiece in the typical traditional Manilla Road style and in contrast to "Atlantis rising" and also "Spiral Castle" experimental passages are kept to an absolute minimum. Somehow, compositions like the outstanding up-tempo opener "Riddle of Steel" are going back to the very early albums ("Invasion" and "Metal") - an absolute must for every 80's Manilla Road maniac. Mark Shelton is sharing the vocals (with Bryan "Hellroadie" Patrick) on a couple of tracks, which works absolutely fine and adds another dimension to the sound of the band. Mark's guitar work is as unique as ever. Gibts eigentlich schon News bezüglich des neuen Albums?
Nur so nebenbei. Ich hab mir grad noch "Out Of The Abyss / Roadkill" und "Crystal Logic" bestellt. Bin schon sehr gespannt wie die beiden Scheiben sind. Bisher hat mich die Band ja noch nicht enttäuscht.
Also die Crystal logic ist die beste Scheibe von denen, wenn man der Mehrheit der Fans glauben darf. War auch meine Einstiegsplatte und ist echt ein absoluter Knaller! Allein "Necropolis" ist ein Song für die Götter und der Rest steht dem (bis auf "Feeling free again", hahaha...) in nix nach. Die Out of the abyss ist auch ziemlich geil, wenn auch recht thrashig und gewöhnungsbedürftig, rangiert aber mittlerweile ganz oben in meinen Gesamt- Top Ten...
Zu den fehlenden News: Der Marc ist wohl im Moment damit beschäftigt das Album zu mischen und ein Label zu finden. Das ganze weiß ich allerdings nur über dritte und vierte und auch die habens nur vom Hörensagen. Was man weiß ist, dass das Album wohl fertig aufgenommen ist. Mark ist im Moment weder übers Netz noch sonstwie zu erreichen, was die Kommunikation natürlich deutlich erschwert.
Man soll den Shark aber erst kürzlich lebendig auf eine Feier in Witchita gesehen haben, wenn man Augenzeugenberichten glauben darf. Er lebt also noch (auch wenn man seit fast nem Jahr nichts mehr von ihm gehört hat) und bastelt an seinem neuen Meisterwerk...
Ich geb Bescheid, sobald was neues raus ist.... ;)
Alles klar. Er ist bestimmt nur so mit dem Album beschäftigt, dass es alles drumherum vergisst. :D

Hab mich für Crystal Logic, Metal und The Deluge entschieden, und zwar genau aus dem Grund, dass ich nur drei Alben wählen durfte.
So, weitere News aus dem Roadcamp:
Kurz gefasst: Mark lebt noch, hat seinen PC gefreggt, das neue Album (fast) fertig gemischt und befindet sich nun auf der Suche nach nem gescheiten Label, was hoffentlich nicht allzu lang dauern wird. Ich auf jeden Fall bin schon gespannt...
Auch an dieser Stelle empfehle ich allen Leuten die die Band nicht kennen mal ein Ohr zu riskieren...

Yes I know, I have been lost to everyone and I apologize for that. If you know me from the past though you know that whenever I am working on an album in the studio I sort of become a hermit and close out the outside world. So forgive me if you can and we will go on from here. I have no working computer right now. Mine blew up with a small mushroom cloud emerging from it. So I have to go to family's or friends houses to have access to the internet.
I have been taking my time on the mix of the new album, which is completely recorded, so that it comes out as good as it can be. My children and my job have been taking a huge amount of my time as well this past year. I had not taken a vacation with my children for 5 years and so I took them to Florida and just arrived back in Wichita yesterday. I'm going to rest up for a couple of days and then get back into Midgard Sound Labs with a fresh ear and finish up the mix on our new album. Basically the mix is done but I want to make sure that it still sounds good to me. There may still be a few tweeks left to do but for the most part the album is finished. Now I have to figure out who I want to try and release it with. So the shopping phase of the album is about to begin. Since Black Lotus emploded Manilla Road is free to sign with whom we please. So I am pondering what my next step is at this point so that we improve out exposure and distribution for this new project.
Since I have no computer at this time I will be contacting all bands and promoters through my mother's computer and I will only be able to be online a couple of times a week. But adapt, improvise and overcome is my motto so all should work out fine.
The my space site is not updated by me because I don't have a computer to do it with and to tell you all the truth - my life is so jam packed with stuff to do that finding the time to sit at a computer for an hour or more is near impossible. I still have to work for a living because music has not made me a rich man as far as money goes. But I will never give music up because it has made me rich in the things that make life worth living.
Thanks to all you supporters of The Road. You are what makes the Manilla Road world still exist. You all have my deepest gratitude for your devotion to the band and the music. I will be in touch with updates as often as I can. May the gods of light be with you all and of course........

So, es gibt wieder ein paar News von der Front:
Manilla Road hat einen neuen Bassisten, Harvey Patrick hat zwischenzeitlich die Band verlassen und wird von Vince Goleman ersetzt. Mark hat dazu eine Antwort im offiziellen Forum der Band hinterlassen, wo er auch einiges Interessantes zur Bandsituation der letzten 30 Jahre erzählt:

Yes it is true Harvey Patrick has sort of disappeared on us and so we have brought in a new man for the touring and future album projects. His name is Vince Goleman. Formerly from several other bands including The Grunge and Apostisy, who by the way did the soundtrack for the cult horror movie "Darkness". Harvey Patrick stuck around long enough to finish the new album and was planning to do the touring with us as well but because of family issues it appears that he has opted out of the touring. Members have come and gone from this band ever since it was put together. The main concern I have always had is to replace the outgoing musician with one that is talented and especially one who loves the music and is able to play it compitantly. I believe that has been done once again with Vince. He is an extremely talented and capable musician. And besides he has long hair so how can we go wrong...hahahaha.
Ok here is the real story. I am just a real ass to work for and that is why I have had so many members in the band over the years....Alright that was a joke also.
To be totally honest the fact is that nobody that has ever been in Manilla Road got rich from it. I am sure that it is very hard to keep hammering away at the music industry if you don't think you are prospering from it. I myself figured out a long time ago that I was not going to make enough money from the band to retire on. But I am in it for a different reason than just money. I really do believe that what I am doing with Manilla Road is important and I feel that it is my calling in this life. I am sure it is a different story for any other band member that has been in the band. I write almost all the music and all the lyrics and concepts are ones that I have come up with. So it is my heart and soul in the band more so than most of the members that have ever been in Manilla Road. I do believe that everyone that has ever been in the band was in it for alot of the same reasons that I am but when it never gets you more than a meager living it is most likely very hard to stick with it for more than several years. Let's take Scott Park for instance or Rick Fisher. These guys gave the band everything they had for a long time. I am sure that they had ideas and dreams of the band getting them a lot further financially than it ever did. Not only did they give up Manilla Road after many years but they gave up trying to make it in the music business all together. I just happen to be the guy that never says die. And so for the Road to continue on I must just face the fact that every so often I will have to break in a new band member. I must say though that I sure hope Hardcore hangs in there with me for a long time to come because he is the best drummer that I have ever played with and has become a soul brother. It's also good to have Hellroadie back in the MR ranks even though I know it brings about a certain bit of contraversy back into the picture. I realize that some think I should be the only one singing in the band and there are others that welcome Hellroadie back. Well the fact is that if you want to hear the songs live that I recorded 20 to 30 years ago he has to be with us. Some of the old stuff I can still sing but alot of it I can't. I guess it's called getting old. So that is why the Hellroadie is back with us. So we can still do many of the favorites that most of you want to hear. Don't worry I will still be singing a lot during the shows.

Ist zwar bissel verspätet, aber ich habe mir letztes Jahr im Sommer auch die Gates Of Fire geholt und ich muss sagen, die Scheibe ist einfach nur genial. Ich kenne Manilla Road, seit Fenriz sie immer in seinen Interviews so fanatisch weiterempfiehlt. Ich habe jetzt seit kurzem Crystal Logic und die ist ein ABSOLUTER HAMMER! Ich höre sowieso sehr gerne traditionellen Heavy Metal und Manilla Road sind auf jedem Fall einer meiner Favoriten! Aber eines verstehe ich bei dieser Band überhaupt nicht: Ihre Musik ist wirklich genial, um Längen besser als einige Kommerz-Bands, auch im Heavy-Metal-Bereich. Aber warum zur Hölle kennt KEINE VERDAMMTE SAU diese göttliche Band??? Sie haben saugeile Riffs, einen markanten Sänger, geniale Texte, epische Melodien, geile Cover...ja und? Was will denn der traditionell veranlagte Headbanger mehr? Und Manowar haben so viel Kohle, dass sie Ihren Fans Motorräder schenken und Festivals für zehn Euro Eintritt veranstalten. Nichts gegen Manowar, aber ich kapiere das einfach nicht...
Das ist auch bei anderen geilen traditionellen Bands so. Brocas Helm, Leatherwolf, Omen, Slough Feg, Cirith Ungol, Twisted Tower Dire, Warlord und ne Menge mehr!
Und wenn ich vorher nicht Darkthrone gehört hätte, wäre ich vielleicht immer noch nicht auf diese Band gestoßen. Diese Vorstellung ist fürchterlich!

Jepp, die kenne ich. Die find ich auch geil. Und Isen Torr sind auch ne coole Band. Da spielt nämlich Rich Walker von Pagan Altar mit. Ansonsten finde ich noch Solstice und Doomsword richtig geil. Und natürlich Reverend Bizarre. Aber du kennst wahrscheinlich so ziemlich alles aus dem Bereich, oder?

Scheint so, als hätte Mark seine Warnung wahr gemacht und sich die Haare wieder anfangen lassen zu wachsen, hehe... Die vorbestellten CDs werden übrigens schon am 25.02. versendet, so dass es möglich ist, dass man die schon 3 Tage früher als der offizielle Release anhören kann....
Und ein neues Lebenszeichen von Mark, in dem er nicht nur über die Europatour diesen Jahres, sondern auch über das Konzept und die Musik des neuen Albums Voyager spricht. Sehr interessant zu lesen, auch wenn Mark vorher warnt, dass er etwas getrunken hat und deswegen vielleicht scheiße erzählt, hehehe. Hier isses:

First of all I would like to say that I have been drinking so this may ramble senselessly a bit but I will try to stay focused.
Ok on February 21 we will jump on a plane and head across the Atlantic for a quick jaunt to Italy to gig at the Play It Loud festival in Brescia. Mayhem awaits those who dare to join us. This should be a great year for the Road. A new album released (Voyager). Two different trips to Europe (Feb. & April). A second appearance at the Keep It True and our first time for the Play It Loud and the Up The Hammers festivals. Man it should be sweet. Can't wait to see all my old friends in Europe and make some new ones also.
Now I gather that you all are wanting to hear some more about the new project Voyager. Ok here we go:
Voyager is the first concept that I have done that is truly historical fiction. In the past all my works have been either historical, mythilogical, horror or literature based or just plane fiction adventure fantasy. But this is the first time that I have created a story based on real times and events with fictional characters placed inside the historical events. There are some events in the story that are fictional as well but they all tie into the historical ones. One of our Viking road crew and I are authoring a novel of the same name and story line. For me the story is just too good to not be expanded upon. So I will try my luck at writing with Richard (Thorgrim) Cathy helping with all the research which has been extensive. More so than any other concept I have done so far.
Ok that is all I am going to say about the concept now I will talk a bit about the music. The project starts off with a long intro called Tomb Of The Serpent King which goes right into the first song Butchers Of The Seas. Butchers is a up beat metal tune that reminds me a bit of some of the style of Spiral Castle. Next is a hard rocker called Frost and Fire. This song has it's roots in the early Manilla days with a old school rock style with a little ting of Dig Me No Grave in it. Now we change directions into a acoustic and electric mixed ballad called Tree Of Life. This one rings of the Manilla Road epic ballad. On to a fast and heavy metal thunder type of thing called Blood Eagle which has a short cathedral organ piece I did for an intro. It has sort of a Johann Sebastian Bach feel to it. The rest of the song is more to the likes of Death By The Hammer. The title cut Voyager is next. This song is a 9 minute epic metal anthem. Gates Of Fire stuff if you ask me. Next is a acoustic song called Eye Of The Storm which has some slight cajun roots to it. Something completely different than I have done before. Onto the heavier stuff now. Return Of The Serpent King is like my last salute to Piggy of Voi Vod. Dischordal mayhem with some of the most awesome drumming I have ever heard from Hardcore. Then Conquest which is another fast and heavy tune sounding somewhat reminiscent of Up From The Crypt and Weavers Of The Web. Finally the last song which is a total mix of acoustic and electric again being another anthem like ballad but a heavy one. Oh yeah the song name...Totentanz The Dance Of Death. This one definately has the traditional MR anthem feel to it again. Ok that is the summary of the Voyager album song by song. On the whole I would say that this project has a bit of a darker feel to it than Gates or Spiral. Some parts of Atlanitis Rising seem to come to mind and definately Mystification comes to life in this album.

Hör grad das erste Mal ins neue Album.... Leider hat sich die Produktion nicht wirklich verbessert (aber auch nicht verschlechtert) seit Gates of Fire, allerdings macht das im vorliegenden Fall absolut nix aus. Einfach göttlich... Mal wieder....

Manilla Road ist eine geile Gruppe. Die ersten drei, vier Alben mag ich persönlich am meisten. Schöner rockiger Sound.... Und dann noch die Lyrics! Bei "Crystal Logic" fallen mir nur drei Worte ein: Robert Ervin Howard :cool:!
Jep, Howard zieht sich durch Manilla Road wie ein roter Faden. Gerade die "Out of the abyss" ist sehr von Howard und Lovecraft beeinflusst. Sehr geil. Und auch die "The frost giant's daughter"-Trilogie vom Gates of fire Album ist sehr geil!

So, mal wieder News vom Shark. Hier erzählt er etwas über das letzte Jahr und die anstehenden Konzerte, sowie über die Reaktionen auf das neue Album "Voyager":
"Hail To The Brethren Of The Hammer,
I would just like to thank all of you who have posted comments about our new album Voyager. It seems everyone is liking what they are hearing and I have seen many really great reviews already on the album with very few negative comments. It is always sort of a weird feeling when a new project is just being released. Your biggest fear is that everyone is going to think it sucks. We try very hard not to just put out music for the sake of being a band. I have always wanted Manilla Road albums not to have any filler songs on them. To make every song as important as the next. It is such a relief to see good reviews and positive responses from the album. I salute you all who have praised the work.
This last year has been such a trip for me when it comes to Manilla Road. Replacing Harvey, having the Tribute to Manilla Road CD "The Riddle Masters" come out (what an honor), finishing up on the Voyager CD and Bryan coming back into the line-up. Man, one hell of a year it was. Well 2008 is getting off to a great start for the Road and I am feeling fine. Voyager has been released and is getting good reactions. We did a fun show in Wichita at The Port with our friends SOKT. We headlined the Play It Loud festival in Italy and had a blast. And there is much more yet to come very soon. We play at the Keep It True X here in about 2 and 1/2 weeks to kick off our next European mini-tour which we are calling "The Brethren Of The Hammer Tour". We also play in France and Greece on this little jaunt and finish up by Headlining the Up The Hammers Festival in Athens Greece. It looks like 2008 is going to as active as the last year but the cool thing is that it doesn't look as chaotic as 2007.
With all that said I would just like to say this:
It has been my honor to have been allowed to lead the life of music that I have for the last 30 years. It is an honor that I believe was bestowed upon me by the fans of Manilla Road. You all will never know how much respect and appreciation I have for all of you who have supported Manilla Road. Even if you are a new member of the brethren or an ancient Manilla Maniac from the days of yore. Without your appreciation of the art I could not be who I am today. My friendship and my heart go out to all of you. Many thanks from one of the luckiest musicians on the face of Midgard.

Laut eines Postings von MANILLA ROAD-Sänger Bryan "Hellroadie" Patrick auf der Internetseite der Band bei Last.fm (http://www.lastfm.de/music/Manilla+Road/) sind MANILLA ROAD (siehe Bild vom Februar 2008) bereits wenige Monate nach der Veröffentlichung des aktuellen Studioalbums "Voyager" mit den Arbeiten am Nachfolgewerk beschäftigt.
Hier der Beitrag des Sängers von oben genannter Website im Originalton:
"...We are in the Studio right now recording the next opus...I have to tell you that the two tracks that are recorded right now is a little different from recent past albums...This album will be more....humm...hard to describe....maybe more personal?? you have to just wait until it's done!"
Außerdem gibt es noch zu berichten, dass MANILLA ROAD auf ihrer MySpace-Seite (http://www.myspace.com/manillaroadofficial) weitere Tracks hochgeladen haben, darunter das auf CD unveröffentlichte Stück 'Throne Of Lies', das ursprünglich auf "Spiral Castle" erscheinen sollte, aber von der Plattenfirma nicht auf die Scheibe gepackt wurde. Bei den Jungs um Mark Shelton hat sich in letzter Zeit einiges getan. Zum Einen wurde in den letzten Wochen ein neues Label namens Fountain Street Productions gegründet, welches sich dem Support des Underground gewidmet hat. Achtung: Nur Underground, nicht Metal Underground. Das ganze ist gedacht als ein Online-Zusammenschluss von Musikern und Bands der unterschiedlichsten Genres, die auf dieser Plattform online ihre Musik zum Download Verkauf anbieten können, genau wie Merchandise verkaufen können, Musik online stellen können etc. Das ganze hat also ein sehr lockeres Korsett und lebt von der Mitarbeit der einzelnen Beteiligten und dem Interesse der musikalisch interessierten Öffentlichkeit.

Zum anderen gibt es auch musikalische Neuigkeiten: Mark hat endlich sein Soloprojekt namens Shark in Form des Albums "Obsidian Dreams" veröffentlicht. Zu haben ist das ganze bisher lediglich in digitaler Form bei Fountain Street Productions (siehe oben). Ich denke jedoch, dass sich in naher Zukunft ein Label für eine greifbare Form der Veröffentlichung findet. Musikalisch schlägt das ganze in die Akustik-Richtung, sprich man nehme die Balladen, Halbballaden und Instrumentale von Manilla Road, mische das gut durch, schütte einen Schuß Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, The Beatles, John Denver, etc. zusammen und genieße das als das, was es ist: gute handgemachte Musik. Absolut unheavy, aber sehr gut, episch und entspannend. Kann man sich übrigens auch kostenlos bei obiger Internetadresse anhören (zumindest 5 der 12 Lieder).
Manilla Road selbst sind fleißig am rehearsen und arbeiten derzeit an Ideen zum nächsten Album, wleches hoffentlich nicht so lange auf sich warten lässt.
Wie geil, Manilla Road spielen auf dem Headbangers Open Air bei mir um die Ecke. Ich glaub ich hab keine andere Möglichkeit als dort zu sein. :metal: :fruit:

Verdammt aus Arbeitstechnischen gründen kann ich leider nicht dahin juckeln. Dabei wäre das ja ein Katzensprung. Wollte Manilla Road schon gern mal live sehen und natürlich auch Killers, Razor ... :rolleyes:

Manilla Road - After Midnight Live 1979
Die Aufnahme enthält 5 bisher unveröffentlichte Live Tracks, die im Studio eines örtlichen Radiosenders in Wichita, Kansas im Rahmen einer Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Show aufgenommen wurden. Die Songs sind wirklich sehr gut und auch aufnahmetechnisch sehr gut eingefangen. Stilistisch bewegen sich Manilla Road im epischen Hard /Psychedelic Rock Bereich, obwohl schon damals Anklänge ihres späteren Sounds zu finden waren. Das ganze klingt wie eine Mischung aus den Song des Debuts "Invasion" und dem erst 2002 veröffentlichten zweiten Album "Mark of the Beast".
Das Album erschien bisher als Download bei Fountain Street Productions und als LP bei High Roller Records. Die LP gibts als normale schwarze Version (Lim. 400), als Brown/Black Splatter Vinyl (Lim. 400) und als Red/Black Splatter Vinyl inkl. Patch (Lim. 200).

Die haben ja so viele Alben am Start... kenn mich im Prinzip kaum aus. Aber der Titelsong des Voyager-Albums ist bei mir auf jeden Fall unter den 100 geilsten Songs, die ich kenne.

Wenn du "Voyager" geil findest, dann solltest du dir die "Gates of Fire" auf jeden Fall auch auf den Einkaufszettel schreiben (ganz ähnlicher Stil). Weiterhin sind die "Crystal Logic", "Open the Gates", "The Deluge" und "Mystification" auch absolut uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert, sowie alles andere, was Mark Shelton je aufgenommen hat... ;)
Bin auf jeden Fall schon mal gespannt wie Sau, was der demnächst auf uns loslässt... :)

The whole project was recorded at Midgard Sound Labs in Wichita, KS (which is my studio hehe. I just love saying that). I have to give special props to Derek Brubaker for all the great engineering he did with us on this album. He also was a big inspiration for some of the concepts and lyric ideas in this project.
Band Line-up:
Vince Golman - Played bass on the last 2 songs. These songs were recorded first actually, while Vince was in some serious pain because of physical problems he was having with his hand which resulted in him giving up his position as bass man for Manilla Road.
E.C. Hellwell - Played bass on all the other songs. Ernie (he hates it when I call him that) and I were getting ready to start working on a project together and even though he considers himself a keyboardist he has considerable prowess as a bassist also so we decided to use him for the rest of the album. Due to other obligations he could not sign on with the Road as our touring bass man though. So Joshua Costillo has joined MR as our new bass player since the recording of the album.
Cory Hardcore Christner - Played totally awesome skins (drums) on the whole project.
Bryan Hellroadie Patrick - Sings lead and backing vocals on the album.
Mark Shark Shelton - (sort of strange referring to myself in the third person) Guitars & lead and backing vocals.
Every album the Road does turns out a bit different than the others while oddly enough retaining a certain amount of familiarity with the bands overall style which has taken three decades to to create. This album follows that path as well as any other that we have done. It is not really a concept album even though some of the songs could be considered inter-related. I think this is the best production we have achieved yet in Midgard Sound Labs and I am more than proud to put my name on this project.
Playground of the Damned will be released on High Roller Records for the LP version and Shadow Kingdom Records for the CD version.
The only touring that we are planning at the moment for 2011 will be the Hammer of Doom festival in Germany in October. This will be a special show where we shall play primarily songs from the first two eras of Manilla Road. Andreas Neurdith will be our special guest drummer at this event.
In the interim I am working on a new project with a new band called Hellwell. Yes E.C. is in the band and it was all sort of his idea therefore the name. Joshua Costillo is also working on this project with us and Hellroadie too. So you say well that is almost like having another MR project. It does have a bit of the road sound to it but very different because of keyboards and synthesizers being used. It is really heavy artistic and epic though. Plus we have a different drummer for this project as well...Jonny Benson. So even though you can catch a tinge of the Road in it there is quite a difference as well.
I guess that is enough for you to assimilate at this time. I will post more info as time rolls on.

Ich wusste gar nicht, dass "Mark of the Beast" schon Anfang der 80er eingespielt wurde. Die ist mit ihren leicht progressiven Elementen auch nicht zu verachten, auch wenn es belanglos wäre, zu grübeln, ob sie nun besser ist als "Metal" oder "Invasion". "Crystal Logic" ist und bleibt imho sowieso Scheibe Nr. 1. Nach dem 83er Machtwerk haben die mEn auch keinen wirklichen Ohrwurm-Song mehr gehabt, wenn man die Alben als solche natürlich immer noch genießen kann.

Spätestens ab 2:35 ist das der angenehmste Ohrwurm, den man haben kann.

Ich finds wenn auch ungewöhnlich für die Band, eigentlich gar nicht so schlecht. Hat nen Lovecraftian-Vibe irgendwie... Passt dann ja auch zur insgesamt düstereren Ausrichtung des Albums.

das cover gefällt mir. habe mir übrigens noch nie einen song von der band angehört.
So, das Album lag heute im Briefkasten und ich habs schon das erste Mal durch. Ist meiner Meinung nach wieder ein Hammer geworden, wenn auch auf den ersten Eindruck schwerer zugänglich als die letzten zwei Alben. Ich bin mal gespannt, wie sich das Album noch entwickelt.
Highlights sind auf jeden Fall schonmal die beiden Epic Tracks "Fires of Asshurbanipal" und "Art of War". :metal1:

Mal wieder ein Wahnsinnslied! Der Sound ist etwas muffig, da wohl direkt vom Vinyl gezogen. Die CD-Version dürfte die Tage erst rauskommen (Shadow Kingdom Records).

Sooo düster scheinen die Songs gar nicht ausgefallen zu sein. Nahezu reine Epik, wieder einmal...
Manilla Road waren die Macht am Hammer of Doom 6 in Würzburg letzten Freitag! Klasse Gig, bei der die Band Spielfreude pur verströmte und man kaum merkte, dass die Band in diesem Line Up nur 3 Mal (!!!) vorher gemeinsam proben konnte.

Hab gehört, die sollen auf'm Hammer of Doom ne ordentliche Show geboten haben. Ging scheinbar fast 3 Stunden - darunter auch Klassiker wie Necropolis, Crystal Logic, Road of Kings, Flaming Metal System, Metalstorm etc. Der neue Sänger soll auch sehr an Shelton erinnert haben ;)

Das hat mich bei den Videos ohnehin überrascht. Also, nicht das ich mich jemals groß informiert hätte, aber
ich dachte, dass der shark sozusagen der Felix Magath von Manilla Road wäre. Gitarrist, Songwriter und eben
Sänger. Scheinbar haben die seit 4 Jahren aber nunmehr schon diesen Sänger. Wie ist das denn genau,
exumer? Wer singt von den beiden hauptamtlich, und wen hört man beispielsweise auf "Voyager"?
Also Voyager wurde komplett vom Shark eingesungen, da Bryan zu der Zeit kurzzeitig nicht mehr in der Band war (private Gründe). Auf den anderen Alben der letzten 10 Jahre (Atlantis Rising, Spiral Castle, Gates of Fire & Playground of the Damned) wechseln sich beide ab mit dem Singen. Es stimmt, dass Manilla Road praktisch immer Mark Shelton war (Songwriting, Texte und Gesang), allerdings hat Mark schon seit Jahrzehnten Probleme mit seiner Stimme (chronische Probleme seit 1985 und ein kompletter Stimmbandriß Anfang der Neunziger) , weshalb er kaum noch ein ganzes Konzert durchhalten kann. Aus diesem Grund ist Bryan der Co-Sänger geworden und macht seine Sache eigentlich mehr wie ordentlich.
Schade finde ich, dass ihm immer vorgeworfen wird, dass er diese growlenden oder kreischenden Vocals reinbringen und damit den Sound der Band ruinieren würde. Allerdings sind gerade diese Vocals meist von Mark persönlich eingesungen worden, mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass raue Vocals und kreischende Schreie sogar schon auf den allerersten Alben der Band zu finden waren. Die Vorwürfe, die von manchen immer wieder mal kommen, sind also ziemlicher Bullshit...

Ich glaube mal was drüber in einem Interview gelesen zu haben, aber darüber bin ich mir nicht mehr ganz sicher...
Könnte Exumer wissen.
Fakt ist, dass der Name nichts mit Vanilla Ice zu tun hat und es tatsächlich einen Highway namens "Manilla Road" gibt!

There is one thing that remains constant in the universe and that is that change is inevitable. Well this law of life is no different for Manilla Road either for change is in the wind again for the band. It saddens me to inform you all that Cory Christner and the other members of Manilla Road have come to an impasse on a few topics which has led to a changing of the guard in the percussion department of the band. We had a good eight years with Hardcore playing incredible drums for the Road and we will miss his expertise. But the time has come to make a change and so we in Camp Manilla have endeavored to make what we think is the best choice for the drummer slot in Manilla Road.
I am proud to announce that as of now the new drummer for Manilla Road is the one and only Andreas Neuderth (Neudi) who has become renowned for his drummer skills with bands like Viron, Roxxcalibur, Savage Grace and Griffin. He is also the host and producer of the metal show STRIKE! on Streetclip TV in Germany. I have known Neudi for many years and we became good friends a long time ago. Recently we spent a lot of time with Neudi in Germany and he played with us at the Hammer of Doom Festival this last October. If you saw the show then you can immediately understand why Neudi was the obvious and best choice of drummers for Manilla Road. He totally kicked ass at the HOD and earned his wings with the Road. Change is always awkward and sometimes difficult for the band and for our supporters as well but in this case I think that, with your support, the addition of Neudi to Manilla Road will have a very positive and glorious result. So please welcome Neudi into the realm of Manilla Road with the arms opened wide. There is much to come in the future from MR. We are working on new music for a new Manilla album and there will be touring (for sure) in 2012. We are in the process of confirming dates in Finland and Sweden right now and we will also be making a trip back to the south of Europe to do shows in Greece and Italy among others.
